Janet Preston

Mrs. Preston practiced special education law with Jonathan Zimring at the Zimring Law Firm from 2010 until she started her own firm in January 2024 when Mr. Zimring decided to significantly reduce his practice.  Mrs. Preston received her undergraduate business degree with honors from Emory University and a law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law where she served as an editor on the Vanderbilt Law Review and received the Dean’s Award.  Mrs. Preston previously practiced in the area of corporate finance and representation of public companies in mergers and acquisitions and hostile takeovers, with a special focus on negotiating difficult transactions. She is also a proud wife and the mother of three children with whom she negotiates successfully on a daily basis.

Building an IEP team is a challenging task. The IEP process is often overwhelming and confusing for parents. Most parents do not understand how does the system works and their rights to participate and determine services for their children. How do you create an IEP that addresses all areas of need for your child? Mrs. Preston works tirelessly to help parents navigate the IEP process and have their voices heard in IEP and 504 meetings.  She assists parents in developing an appropriate educational program for their special needs child, including meeting preparation to overcome obstacles when presented in the IEP process.

Mrs. Preston has specific expertise in developing programs for students that require maximum services in the LRE. In 2005, she was a founder of Coralwood Foundation, a 501(c)(3) which benefits an inclusion preschool for special needs children. Its endowment has been used to provide training for teachers and therapists, including Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell and PROMPT speech interventions, as well as to build capital improvements such as a handicapped accessible nature train and treehouse.  Mrs. Preston believes strongly that parents must take an active role in maximizing the inclusiveness of their child’s school and community.
